Things to draw when the page stays blank

72 free drawings in PDF, to color online or to copy by hand.

The hard part is rarely the drawing, it is deciding what to draw. This page is the whole catalogue in one place — every drawing on the site, grouped by theme — so you can scroll until something catches your eye and start. Each one opens with a printable model, the steps to redraw it, and the age it suits, so a nine-year-old and a four-year-old can pick from the same list.

If you have ten minutes

Pick a face. The smiling cat face, the bunny face and the smiling pumpkin are each a circle, two or three features and a mouth, done before the pencil needs sharpening. The wrapped present is even quicker: a box, a ribbon, a bow, and it makes a gift tag on its own.

If you have an afternoon

Take something with a scene around it. The tortoise and the hare gives you two characters and a story to finish on the same sheet. The cat in a boba cup and the reindeer with baubles have enough small parts to keep the hand busy without any of them being hard. And the halloween castle or the christmas wreath are the ones to open when you want a drawing that takes the whole afternoon and looks like it did.

If it is for someone

A drawing made for a person needs a subject that reads as a gift. The puppy with a balloon works for a birthday, the christmas candle and the christmas star for a card in december, the unicorn and rainbow for a child who has a favorite color and wants to use all of it. Print the model, color it, fold it: the card is done.

If you want to get better

Draw the same subject twice at two levels. Start with the sitting bunny, then try the realistic rabbit; the cat with a bow, then the striped cat; the walking unicorn, then the realistic unicorn. The second one is harder for a reason you can see — proportions, fur, the eye — and having drawn the first tells you exactly where.

Common questions

What is easy to draw when you have no ideas?

Faces before whole bodies, and rounded subjects before angular ones. On this page the cat face, the puppy face and the halloween monster are finished in a handful of steps, and every page shows its steps at the bottom so you can check before you start.

Are these drawing ideas for kids or for adults?

Both, and the page says which. Each drawing carries a starting age and a level; the easy ones begin at four, the hard ones like the christmas angel or the flying witch suit older children and any adult who wants a quiet hour with a pencil.

Can I print the drawings instead of copying them?

Yes. Every page has a print button that sends the model to your printer as a clean coloring page, and a PDF to download. The steps are there for anyone who wants to redraw it, not a requirement.

What should I draw for christmas or halloween?

The holiday sections on this page list every christmas and halloween drawing on the site. For a card, the christmas star or the ghost in a witch hat; for a decoration to hang, the christmas tree or the bat with a candy pail.
