Easy Mermaid Drawings
8 free drawings in PDF, to color online or to copy by hand.
Every mermaid page is really two drawings stuck together: a person above the waist and a fish below it, and the join is where children either hurry or take their time. The collection starts with a baby sitting inside a shell, where the tail barely shows, and ends with true proportions and a tail scaled row by row.
Mermaid drawings to print and color
These mermaid drawings print free, work on screen if you would rather not print, and each comes with the steps for drawing it by hand.
Start here: the easy ones
The baby mermaid sits inside an open scallop with only a short tail showing, and the cute mermaid curls hers round beneath her. Both suit four and up.
Mermaids holding something
The starfish gives a small child something to finish early, and the trident brings the only straight line in the collection.
Scenes rather than figures
The shell throne stands seaweed either side and scatters shells across the seabed, the treasure chest spills a dozen overlapping coins, and the jellyfish drifts beside her on long single tentacles.
The long one, for adults
The realistic mermaid trades cartoon rounding for true proportions, hair strand by strand and a tail scaled row by row. Give it pencils and an evening.
Everything prints free with no sign up. The unicorn drawings and the dragon drawings sit beside this one.
Common questions
What is the trick to a mermaid tail?
From the hips in one long curve, then the fin spread at the end, then the scales last in overlapping rows working down from the waist. Doing the scales before the outline is settled is what makes a tail look lumpy. The cute mermaid takes it slowly.
Which of these mermaids is the simplest?
The baby mermaid, because the shell hides most of the tail and the shell itself is the biggest and simplest shape on the page. A four-year-old can fill the ribs before anyone has to draw a face.
How do you color the hair and the tail differently?
Alternate two tones on both, but in opposite directions: lock by lock going down the hair, row by row going across the tail. The realistic mermaid is built around exactly that and rewards colored pencils over markers.
Are these mermaid pages free to print?
Yes. Every sheet prints at no cost, with no account and nothing to sign, from the button above the drawing. You can also color it in the browser and never touch a printer.
