The hood is the whole drawing: two points that flop out to the sides and end in pom-poms, with a skull sitting on the forehead. Her face shows inside it, and the mischievous open grin is what stops her being just another round character. She is the one children ask for when they have outgrown pink. This Kuromi drawing works from six. My Melody is her opposite.

Kuromi: how to draw it step by step
Here is kuromi in 8 steps.
Take the round head first, then follow its curve with the hood.
Send one point of the hood out to each side, floppy, not stiff.
Add a pom-pom at the end of each point.
Draw the skull on the forehead: a dome, two eyes and a jaw.
Cut the hood opening to a point between the eyebrows.
Put in the two large eyes and the open grin.
Draw the body as a simple bell shape with two small hands.
Finish with the two feet and the star beside her.
What you need
Paper, a pencil and an eraser.
